"'Take me to the Valley of the Amazons,' cries the song, 'where every girl is a goddess.'  This mythical Valley of which she sings is surrounded and protected by great carnivorous trees which, so the legend goes, swallow people whole, this making the Paradise within an inaccessible dream."  (Liner notes from 1956 pressing)

This piece is actually rather good and although echo devices are used, they provide a suitably eerie touch to the music and its setting.  There is a hushed vibrancy here that is most unusual.  The range Yma uses for this song is uncommonly low but easily encompassed.

Yma uses open chest voice, the hum, quarter- tones, vocal flips and other effects to cast a strange and definitely mysterious mood.  Here too is the trembling, pleading vibrato and gasp-like whispers that serve to stress the sense of desolation in this song (more successfully used than in the previous "Yawar").  The middle section finds Yma moving to contralto regions and using various types of grace note approaches to notes.  The ending is quite distinct as Yma descends into practically non-vocal regions.  The one distracting feature of this song is the use of an antiquated, squeaky voilin.  It does not sound authentic, it only sounds as if the person using it did not know how to play.
